Attendance
School commences daily at 8.48am and finishes at 3.20pm except for Wednesday, sport afternoon, when school finishes at 2.45pm and Friday, when the school day ends at 2.48pm.
Punctuality and regular attendance is are important skills that students need to develop in preparation for work and life in general and there is ample evidence that students who attend regularly and are punctual to all lessons are more likely to achieve their personal best in study.
The
senior school operates on a flexible timetable and an extended school day.
Depending on the courses chosen, students may be required to attend lessons
that begin at 8.00am (Period 0) or block lessons from 1.00-5.30pm. Senior
students may also leave school earlier on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to access
TAFE courses or courses at other DET campuses, homestudy or part-time work.
Absence from school
Parents are notified daily of student absences, including lateness, via SMS text message. Parents are legally required to give an explanation of the absence via return text message. Where a return SMS is not possible, for example for those parents who do not have a mobile phone, on the first day back after an absence, the student must submit a note written by the parent explaining the absence. The note should be given to the roll teacher and should show the date, student's name, address, class, parent's telephone number and the date(s) of the absence. The school should be advised in advance of anticipated absences. Every effort should be made by students to secure medical and dental appointments out of school hours. Absences not explained after seven days are recorded as unexplained.
Pass outs
Students requiring to leave school early should bring a signed permission
note from a parent stating the date, student's name, year and roll class,
time of departure and reason. The note should be presented to the head teacher
assigned to the year group before school starts.
Students should register in the pass-out book in the front office their name,
year, roll class, time of departure and reason. Students will be issued with,
and will retain, the pass. If for any reason students will be returning to
school after an appointment, they will be required to sign back in at the
front office.
These passes are valid on the day and time of issue only.
