Course Description:

The Preliminary course focuses on aspects of the economic behaviour of consumers, business and governments. Much of this behaviour is influenced by the operation of markets. Two key markets, the labour market and the financial market, are examined in detail. The Preliminary course provides an essential foundation for the HSC course.

Compare and contrast the operation of an economy other than Australia with that of Australia.

Format: Power Point Presentation 

Your report should include a discussion of the following:

System of government

Overview of economic well being

Comparison of economic indicators including:

Standard of living

Unemployment / employment

Economic growth 

Inflation 

Economic development (quality of life)

Resources

Main exports / imports

Environmental quality

Role of the government in health care, education and welfare payments.

NOTE- A short test at the end of your presentation will be based on terminology used in the presentation.

Investigate the impact of our aging population on tax receipts, social welfare education and other areas of government budgeting. Discuss the range of policy options available to the government to address the economic issues an aging population creates.
