HSC Assessment Task 2

Weighting:  20% of course mark

Date:  Half Yearly Exam Period: Weeks 9/10 - Term 1

Outcomes that may be assessed

The student~

H1  seeks to apply mathematical techniques to problems in a wide range of practical contexts

H2  constructs arguments to prove and justify results

H4  expresses practical problems in mathematical terms based on simple given models

H5  applies appropriate techniques from the study of calculus, geometry, probability,

trigonometry and series to solve problems

H6  uses the derivative to determine the features of the graph of a function

H7  uses the features of a graph to deduce information about the derivative

H8  uses techniques of integration to calculate areas and volume

H9   communicates using mathematical language, notation, diagrams and graphs

TASK: This assessment may include questions from the following topic areas

1.  Coordinate Methods in Geometry

Reference: Chapter 7 (pages 299-301): Maths in Focus Book 1 -  Margaret Grove

2.  Applications of Geometrical Properties

Reference: Chapter 4: Maths in Focus Book 1 - Margaret Grove

3.   Geometrical Applications of Differentiation

Reference: Chapter 2: Maths in Focus Book 2 - Margaret Grove

4.   Integration

Reference: Chapter 3: Maths in Focus Book 2 - Margaret Grove

5.   Trigonometric Functions

Reference: Chapter 6: Maths in Focus Book 2 - Margaret Grove

6.  Questions from the Preliminary HSC Course

Reference: Maths in Focus Book 1 - Margaret Grove

Remember:

Assessment tasks are very important.  You should only be absent or fail to submit a task by the due date, if you are sick or there has been an extreme family problem.  You should have a doctor’s certificate for illness and/or a letter, presented to the Principal, from a parent/caregiver for family reasons.  Refer to the relevant section of the Year 12 HSC assessment book for details of your obligations.

You must complete an Illness/Misadventure form (available from Mr Grunseit) for any task that is missed.  Failure to do this will result in a ZERO MARK, and a non-attempt being recorded.

This is your responsibility
