Community
Involvement
Barrenjoey
is an integral part of its community and students and the community work together
in a variety of ways such as:
- Barrenjoey Concert
Band provides the music for the Avalon ANZAC Day march and memorial service,
the bugler for the Dawn Service and the memorial ceremony, our student leaders
march and participate in the memorial service and our captains attend the
ANZAC Day luncheon;
- Barrenjoey students
recognise the work of local volunteers in the community by organising a
ceremony held at Palm Beach RSL. This is called CAN - Community
Awards Night;
- Since Pittwater Council
introduced the youth award in the volunteers ceremony Barrenjoey has had
nominees and almost every year have won. The Pittwater Council Youth of
the Year 2005 announced on Australia Day 2006 was Tim Hill, Year 12 2005.
- Barrenjoey uses the
ECO grant provided by Pittwater Council for a variety of school and community
environmental projects;
- Students participate
annually in Clean Up Australia Day;
- Students have designed
and painted murals for local buildings such as the Avalon Recreation Centre
and the North Avalon amenities block;
- Barrenjoey participates
in Avalon and Newport market days providing music, stalls and willing labour
for the day to assist the community committee to run the day; and
-
Barrenjoey
Music Room is a quarterly music event where members of the community can
enjoy a high quality concert performed by local amateur and a wide variety
of professional groups from further afield.
