Barrenjoey has an exceptional location and the school community has a commitment to preserve the beauty of the area and respect and care for the environment.

Bushcare group

A group of parents regularly meets at the school to maintain and care for the gardens. Information about times is published in the Peninsula Press.

Before

After

During the last six years over 8,000 tubestock of native grasses, shrubs and trees have been planted on the school grounds. This development is an ongoing project and builds on the work to improve the school grounds that has been done by previous parents, students and members of staff.

At working bees held each term parents have installed new seating and edged gardens as well as spreading mulch and planting.

Sustainable schools program

Barrenjoey is a pilot school in this program which recognises the importance of environmental education to ensure maintenance and restoration of the Earth's natural systems and fostering of sustainable lifestyles.

Clean Up Australia

All students in Years 7 and 8 participate in the annual Clean Up Australia and Barrenjoey participates in the Clean Beach competition winning the environmental award in 2004.
